Hi,

I have a big problem with my NAS.

The first issue was a Degraded pool (2 disks in Raid1-ZFS), with one disk REMOVED. I tried to put it back online but it was impossible.

OK, I don't tell the whole story since that moment (several tries+ I lost the other disk stupidly...). Nevermind.

All I'd like now is to know if I have a chance to get back the data. Here is the current situation:

Hostname freenas.local

Build FreeNAS-9.1.1-RELEASE-x86 (a752d35)

Platform AMD Sempron(tm) Processor LE-1250

Memory 1903MB

Initially, two disks 2To in RAID1

ZFS File system (I know, I'd have needed more memory)

OS on USB stick

Behavior at boot.

OS starts. No anomaly except:

a CAM error, like:

(aprobe0:ahcich1:0:15:0): NOP. ACB: 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00

(aprobe0:ahcich1:0:15:0): CAM status: Command timeout

(aprobe0:ahcich1:0:15:0): Error 5, Retries exhausted

Then, the last thing I can see are:

savecore: reboot after panic: page fault

savecore: no dump, not enough free space on device (19410 available, 24600 needed)

savecore: unsaved dumps found but not saved

No crash dumps in /data/crash.

No suitable dump device was found.

Entropy harvesting: interrupts ethernet point_to_point kickstart.

GEOM_ELI: Device ada0p1.eli created.

GEOM_ELI: Encryption: AEES-XTS 256

GEOM_ELI: Crypto: Software

Starting file system checks:

/dev/ufs/FreeNASs1a: FILE SYSTEM CLEAN; SKIPPING CHECKS

/dev/ufs/FreeNASs1a: clean, 751410 free (2050 frags, 93670 blocks, 0.1% fragmentation)

/dev/ufs/FreeNASs3: FILE SYSTEM CLEAN; SKIPPING CHECKS

/dev/ufs/FreeNASs3: clean, 2829 free (21 frags, 351 blocks, 0.7% fragmentation)

/dev/ufs/FreeNASs4; FILE SYSTEM CLEAN; SKIPPING CHECKS

/dev/ufs/FreeNASs4: clean, 38821 free (45 frags, 4847 blocks, 0.1% fragmentation)

Mounting local file systems:.

Then, the system freezes.

Behavior at boot, disk being dysconnected

I've then tried to boot without any disk, then plug it when the OS is ready.

Here is the complete output of dmesg

I'm not sure I'm going to be able to help you, or that anyone is, but posting your exact hardware and FreeNAS version (rather than leaving us to guess based on the dmesg output) will likely help. It looks like you're using FreeNAS 9.1.1, and AMD CPU, and 2 GB of RAM; the latter is 25% of the minimum requirement to safely use ZFS with FreeNAS.

Thanks for your answer.
Except if I'm wrong, You could find these information in 'System information' spoiler, but ok, it could have been more visible.

I know I missed the RAM equirement. It works since 4 years now without any problem. But do you think it is the cause of my problem?

I'd missed the system information spoiler, but having seen it, it still doesn't indicate the motherboard you're using (which may or may not have anything to do with your problem). As to the RAM, I've seen at least a few cases here where someone was running for quite a while with < 8 GB and it "worked fine", until the pool got trashed.

What's the output of just 'zpool import' (without the -a flag)?

You could also try adding more memory. This will help your pool mount if it's not trashed yet. Then backup everything and do something else with that hardware because it shouldn't be running freenas.

Did you ever get this working?

I'm going to guess a 'no' since you had 2GB of RAM. We have had the stern warnings about 8GB of RAM for quite some time (6GB before that) because people can 'use' the system. I put use in quotes because the system boots, and may work fine. But suddenly, and without warning or understanding, your zpool will be corrupted beyond any chance of recovery. We know that happens. We know it's just a matter of time. We also know that almost everyone that wants to use FreeNAS wants to use ZFS because it is impervious to bitrot and other random corruption, so avoiding other forms of corruption should be something the casual forum user should be aware of and avoid.
