Hi...What I am want to know is there a particular ram that you would use with the board as pasted below.

1 x Supermicro X10SLL-F LGA 1150 Motherboard

http://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/xeon/c220/x10sll-f.cfm

2 x Crucial CT102472BD160B 8GB PC3L-12800 ECC Unbuffered 240-pin DIMM

1 x Intel i3-4160 3.60GHz 2C 3M FCLGA1150

So would this be a decent combo for a home freenas system?

My purpose is to store my movie collection, song/music, photos with raidz2? No need for encryption.

What's your storage config? 6x6TB raidz2? Want to expand trough adding another 6disk z2 vdev soon? Plex or other CPU-intensive things planned?

If you can, grab the Samsung M391B1G73QH0-YK0 DIMMs x2 instead of the Crucials. Those Crucials will work too, just aren't on the Tested list from Supermicro.

That is what the company selling the boards recommended/supplied. Using 4x3TB and no plex or any other jails

The company /building/ the boards tested these DIMMs and verified them as working: http://www.supermicro.com/support/r...B86C662FB2FD6&prid=0&type=0&ecc=0&reg=0&fbd=0
or http://www.supermicro.com/support/r...B86C662FB2FD6&prid=0&type=0&ecc=0&reg=0&fbd=0

But well, Crucials aren't bad DIMMs either. Running them myself... Since you don't use encryption or anything else CPU-heavy, you'll probably be fine with an G3220 or G3240. Saves you another ~50$.
For what it's worth, nobody's ever complained of Crucial RAM (specifically) not working on an X10SLL-F or X10SLM-F.

Still, not on QVL -> not my _first_ choice. Again, I'm running these exact DIMMs on that exact board.
