Hi Forums,
I am trying to set up a sync from Mac and Windows to FreeNAS, via rSync. If possible, I want to go with SSH (simple and secure) to keep specific folders in sync. And in a second step I want to backup FreeNAS snapshots to a Netgear ReadyNAS, using SSH.
I have read a lot about rSync and the rSync features of FreeNAS (in the FreeNAS forums and the FreeNAS documentation), during the last two weeks. There are rSync-servers and rSync-clients, push and pull configurations and key exchanges. But what are the advantages or disadvantages ,of the different methods? Why should one device become a rSync-server and another one a rSync-client? Why is "Deltacopy" a popular rSync-server for Windows?
Can somebody tell me, why to use what setup in which use case?
Thanks.
