Hi all,

I want to install freenas on my hpe ProLiant microserver Gen10. I'll have 2x 12TB drives, 2x 4TB and a 250GB ssd.

Since I'll use the 12TB drives only for non critical data, I don't need redundancy for it.
So I'll have 1 pool with the 4TB drives mirrored.

But I'm still wondering what to do with the 12TB drives: I can create 2 seperate pools, so when one disk fails I still keep the data on the other drive. Or I can create 1 pool, which saves me from micromanaging which data should go where.

Does anyone have Any insights?
Thanks in advance!

1 pool with 2 vdevs. Each vdev is just a mirror.

That's what I would do. Multiple pools is more work than I care to deal with usually.

12TB is an awful lot of data to leave swinging in the breeze. I know you say it's for "temporary data" but consider how much of your time would be lost if 12TB of bits decided to go poof.

One pool with the 4TBs, one of the 12TBs would be my call. And boot from the SSD unless it's one of the ones with the TRIM bug.
