Hi everyone,

I'm looking at upgrading my FreeNAS and want to see what everyone thinks about the best course of action for the CPU. I suppose everyone faces this problem when deciding what to build.

Basically, I want to re-build my FreeNAS so I can support a IBM ServeRAID M1015 SAS controller. I will have approx 6-10 drives (start with 6 expanding to 10 over time).

I want a CPU that will be able to support this system (doesn't have to be extremely fast, but enough to support LACP down the track). Usually my system will only be using 3 drives (RAIDz) at any one time. Also, because my system is going to be quite large (lots of HDDs etc) it will be quite expensive on power, so I want a CPU that won't use too much Power as the rest of the system will.

Should I go AMD or Intel and what are your suggestions.

Also any other hardware power saving suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
