AMD A85x Chipset

Does anybody know if boards like this work with FreeNAS:

I haven't found anything about A85x compatibility. 8 ports of sata III...

You should check your selection against FreeBSD. If it can run FreeBSD then it should work. Odds are it will work but I cannot say for certain since I don't have one myself. It would be interesting to collect data on equipment that does not work as I suspect it's not too large of a list and I'd think it would be more RAID controllers than motherboards or other parts.

Yep, it would be great to have a HCL, like OSX86 has for example.
Meanwhile I found some info about MSI FM2-A85XA-G65, same chipset. Some guy on newegg says he installed it all fine.

I will look into it a bit more. It would be perfect when I reach raidz 6 drives to still have some room for hot spares.

I would recommend that you buy as much RAM as possible to put into your machine. 8GB is good for good performance in general but 16GB really helps speed things up and it's cheap these days.

I have FreeNAS 8.3.0 running on Gigabyte GA-F2A85X-D3H.

All 8 SATA ports are recognized correctly.
The USB 3.0 also works fine once you enable the xhci in the tunables (but as some review sites showed - the USB 3.0 chipset is not the best...)

I have 32GB RAM (4 x 8G 1866Mhz) which works fine :)

The on-board LAN works ok (not great), as between reboots it sometimes fails to get the address from the DHCP, so I disabled it and put other more reliable NICs.
Also, with the onboard NIC I couldn't get the mtu 9000 to work (jumbo frames).
could be a driver issue? (Realtek 8111E is the chipset on the board).
