I was hoping to set up FreeNas as a backup destination for our windows computers on our network. My desire would be for the user to set up the built in backup process on their computer and authenticate against the domain and that we wouldn't have to manually create that particular user's folder on the FreeNas device. Is this possible without allowing all users to see other users backups?

I am not sure I am even asking this right :-/

Thanks,
Bryan

It's all about how you set it up. You could easily make a script to do the hard work if you have 100s of users. Can you do what you want, absolutely. Just set the permissions appropriately.

Cyberjock, thank you! I am new to FreeNas. Is there built in scripting support, or are you talking about just doing something on the command line that queries our AD for new users and creates their directories, etc? If so, is there a tutorial for setting the permissions via command line?

Do you know of any examples of this being done?

Thanks!
