Is this possible? After syncing with your AD server, can you use those accounts to authenticate into the web GUI?

Reading through all the AD related documents online and in this forum, can't find a yes or no answer on this.

AFAIK, no. There might be some hacky way to do it, but I'm not aware of any legit way of doing it.

Isn't the web GUI only available to root, anyway?

Why do you need to give access to the WebGUI? Note that quite a few administrative tasks for CIFS can be handled via compmgmt.msc on a Windows workstation. Share permissions can of course be set as you normally would through either compmgmt.msc or through the security tab. I believe that domain admins are automatically granted "SeDiskOperatorPrivilege" which will allow them to stop and start shares as well as close open files and boot users. What more can a person ask for? You can think of the locked-down webgui as job security. :)
