You're basing your statement on a faulty premise: That you can reliably use just two drives' worth of parity for an arbitrarily large number of drives.

Functional Freenas I was completely satisfied.
I like that it is based on freebsd. i like freebsd :)

I came to the solution that will be used as follows freenas:
1.make full backup of the existing drive (made with a hardware controller)
2.destroy a hardware raid 5
3.hardware controller will leave for connecting baskets with wheels
4.add 2 disk of 2TB(all will be 6)
5.make a new array raid-z2 of 6 disks

if I will need permission I will add another 6 drives.I make a new array and add it to the pool.


What do you think this is a good way?
