I am trying to setup email reports from my Freenas 9.2.1.5 box, and after setting my email address etc, I am now getting the said error message, and no test email was sent

My settings:
Outgoing mail server: smtp.mailserver.com
Username: robghes@mailserver.com
TLS/SSL: SSL
Password for VM email

save settings, then Send Test Mail
Error message:
Your test email could not be sent: (550, 'Sender Domain Invalid (VM420)', u'root@freenas.local')

whoever mailserver.com is, they're checking your "from" address to see if it actually exists.

freenas.local is not a valid domain for sending email.

Probably the simplest thing to do is go into the account manager on your freenas GUI and make sure the root account has a valid email address configured.

I changed the default email address to my gmail one and now it works. I followed a video on YouTube about setting up a nas box, and must have missed something when it came to the part about emails.

Thanks
