2 pools, 1 in degraded state.

When I built my server, I had a couple extra old drives from a previous build.
Decided to use them as a separate pool "Dozer".
Main pool "Tank" has 6 drives.
One of the drives in Dozer won't return SMART anything and the pool is in a degraded state.
I don't have anything on this pool except a couple test files...and I'm wondering if I can simply
leave it in a degraded state and this will have no affect on the other pool? Just asking out of curiosity,
not because I'm going to actually leave it as-is.

And this just happened today, but...can I simply remove the degraded pool?
I haven't had a chance to search around on what to do and how to do it.
I'm pretty sure I don't want to replace the drive and bring it back up...don't want to use my cold spare
and don't want to spend the money to buy a new drive either...at least not for now. What should i do? Can I shut Dozer down temporarily (3-6 months)?
And bring it back up whenever I want?

I can't even remember what the settings were...but i believe I have Dozer set as a 2 drive mirror?

You can check that with zpool status at the CLI

can I simply remove the degraded pool?
Yes

I can simply leave it in a degraded state and this will have no affect on the other pool?
Yes

Can I shut Dozer down temporarily (3-6 months)?
Export the pool and remove the disks... yes.

And bring it back up whenever I want?
Re-insert disks and import the pool, yes.

I haven't had a chance to search around on what to do and how to do it.
(Remove/destroy the pool)
Same as exporting, but you select to destroy the data.

OK...Shady's back. Back again. A bit over 6 months have passed...and now it's time to take care of my degraded pool.
I have purchased a new HDD to replace the failed drive.

Now what?
I have previously exported the pool, but left the disk physically in the case.
What do I do now...?
Put in the new drive and let it resilver?
Run the HDD through all the Burn-in processes, then resilver?

Also, a separate question...I've been gone for a while. Do I simply upgrade to TrueNAS? Or are there some other steps I'll need to do first before upgrading? Is it similar to True Blood?

I'm trying to find the Burn-in process that I used a couple years ago, but can't seem to find the document.

Mod note: This document has been ported over to the Resources section. To get to the document itself, just use the tabs above and click the "Overview" tab.

Where is this? I'm having trouble finding it for some reason...
