Hi

I have 2 onboard controllers on my motherboard. 1 provides 2x SATA 6Gb/s and 6x SATA 3Gb/s.

I am planning on using 4 2TB WD Red drives in RaidZ2. These drives support 6Gb/s.

Can I spread the drives over both controllers? or should I put them all on the 3Gb/s?

Intel® H55 Express Chipset built-in
6 xSATA 3.0 Gb/s ports
Marvell® PCIe SATA 6Gb/s controller
2 xSATA 6.0 Gb/s ports

Thank you

How fast do the drives actually transfer data (look up benchmarks and convert to Gb/s)?

How fast does SATA 3Gb/s transfer data?

How fast does SATA 6Gb/s transfer data?

Answer these questions and you'll quickly come to understand why SATA 6Gb/s is irrelevant for spinny rust.
