11.2 Beta3 unable to start SMART

Just updated my server to 11.2 Beta3 and I received an error that smartd service failed to start. Everything else seems to be working correctly so far.

service smartd-daemon start
/usr/local/etc/rc.d/smartd-daemon: WARNING: /usr/local/etc/smartd.conf is not readable.

Sounds like this bug which has been fixed for RC1: https://redmine.ixsystems.com/issues/44306.

I didn’t see a successful workaround for this issue in the bug report, has anyone found one? Also I am not running a usb not device like mentioned in the bug report.

Go into the legacy UI and resave your SMART tests, then the service can start.

Thank you! I had this same issue and this fixed it for me! I was pulling my hair out trying to figure out how I could run short and long smart tests from the new ui with the smart service still running.
