Hello,

I have an issue with an Intel X540-T2.

From time to time both NICs of the card are going down when there are heavy transfers on one of the NICs.
After reboot everything is up again.

Do you think this is a hardware issue or software/BIOS settings?
NICs are configured as different subnets in FreeNAS, no LACP.

Regards
Roland

Hi,

I think that this type of NIC is supported by FreeNAS but if I remember well, it works with high temperature.
There is sufficient airflow around the NIC?

Best Regards,
Antonio

According to the Intel datasheet for the X540T2, this NIC dissipates 17.4W at 10Gbps, and needs 200 linear feet/minute (LFM) air flow to handle that heat.

Definitely look at airflow as the likely culprit. Server cards put into environments designed by hobbyists is unfortunately a problem for any of the higher dissipation cards, which also includes HBA's.

Also you probably want to see if your card might be a fake. Does it have a Yottamark?

Thanks guys.
Indeed the Intel card was fake.
Replaced with Chelsio T520, now everything runs like a charm.
