Why not check "inherit permissions"?

It seems like that's the option I want, but the documentation says not to check it if your ACL type is set to Windows. Does anyone know why it shouldn't be checked?

I think "inherit permissions" only applies to Unix permissions.
This is the reason for the warning in the manual: https://bugs.freenas.org/issues/1262
There is also the "inherit acls" smb.conf setting (see https://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/manpages-3/smb.conf.5.html). FreeNAS (ix-samba) always sets this to 'Yes' for every share -- it doesn't matter if Windows ACLs are enabled or not.
