Very slow rsync transfer rate

I am developing https://github.com/rsyncOSX/RsyncOSX a GUI for rsync on MacOSX. The rsync on FreeNAS is terrible slow. I have installed a FreeBSD VM on the FreeNAS server and transferring files by rsync to the FreeBSD VM is about ten times faster. I dont know what causes the terrible transfer rate on FreeNAS, does anyone have a workaround? My hardware is https://rsyncosx.github.io/DIYNAS

I have tested it twice, the rsync on FreeNAS

* 1125 files : 230.15 MB in 206.48 seconds
* 1125 files : 230.15 MB in 228.48 seconds

The rsync on the FreeBSD VM on my FreeNAS server..

* 1125 files : 230.15 MB in 23.50 seconds
* 1125 files : 230.15 MB in 21.50 seconds

This rules out any issues regarding HW or network, the FreeBSD VM is running on my FreeNAS server..
