USB-3 Laptop docks worth getting?

I have two different laptops that I use. One of them has USB-C Thunderbolt, but the other doesn't.

I want a way to dock both of them and I am considering getting a USB 3.0 dock of some kind.

1080p resolution is fine, and so is the USB 3.0 bandwidth for file transfers, but my concern is lag between the PC > Dock > Monitor.

Does anybody have any experience with the USB 3.0 docks? Is there video lag inherent in using USB 3.0?

We don’t recommend them for engineers using CAD due to graphics acceleration issues, but most new “office” setups get USB3 docks instead of native cradles

Thanks for the input. I should have specified that I use the laptops for some photo editing (Photoshop/Lightroom).
