Hi

I'm fairly new to this so please bear with me.

I have been trying to get remote download from my freenas box but having no luck.
I have enabled SSH via GUI.
Port 22 is forwarded in my router (Asus N66-U)
Created user ftpuser and added to group guest
Set home directory for ftpuser to /mnt/Media
Set /mnt/Media permissions to read/write/execute for ftpuser

I can sftp to /mnt/Media using ftpuser/password
I can access sub directories
Can upload

But for the life of me I can't download, have tried with root as wheel but same issue.
The download fails with `unknowns error

Clients used are winSCP, red hat sftp from command prompt, Android AndFTP.

Closest to an error code is from AndFTP which says `Download failed: ch.ethz.ssh2.u: failure (SSH_FX_FAILURE: An error occurred but no specifspecific error code exists to describe the failure

I have tried putting the freenas IP in a DMZ but no use, tried enabling ftp and tftp via GUI but neither helped.

Any ideas, I'm a bit lost with this......

And it works locally?

Fix the configuration of the N66-U or replace it with something that works.

jgreco's suggestion wasn't for you to check your router. The suggestion was to get SFTP downloading working locally before you try it remotely. If it doesn't work locally then of course it won't work remotely.
