First off, I'm a N00b to FreeNAS.

I set up a freenas box a few days ago

- FreeNAS-8.2.0-RELEASE-p1-x64 (r11950)

- AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5200+
- MSI K9N4 SLI MB
- 8G RAM
- 3 1T SATA drives in RAIDZ1
- Attached to network through a Linsys BEFSR41 V2 with a static IP address
- Volume name "OurNetwork_Server/"

Dataset "OurNetwork_server/Apple/Apple_Music" was set up as a AFP share for use with a Macbook pro. I populated it with some music files then decided to use a different dataset for the music. I deleted files, then deleted the share. When I try to destroy the dataset, "Apple_Music" the screen refreshes as if freenas is doing the operation but the dataset remains. I've been working on this for two days now.

I've tried rebooting, changing permission for the dataset to root/wheel, changing wrx permissions hoping something would "reset" the dataset and make it removable.

I did successfully destroy 2 other datasets with no problems in the "OurNetwork_server/PC/" dataset.

I don't have first-hand knowledge of Shell commands, but if I need to use it I will. I just need explicit instructions.

Help! I don't know what else to do.
Steve

Edit:
I force unmounted the dataset in shell then ran "zfs destroy OurNetwork/Apple/Apple_Music" and I got this:

fatal trap 12: page fault while in kernel mode
cpuit =1: apic id=01
fault virtual address =0x308
fault code =supervisor read data, page not present
instruction pointer =0x20: 0xffffffff8056bef
stock pointer = 0x28: 0xfffffff82444a34e0
frame pointer = 0x28: 0xfffffff82444a3560
code segment = base 0x0, limit 0xfffff, type 0x16
processor eflags = interrupt enable, resume, IGPL=0
current process = 3584 (zfs)
trap number =12
panic: page fault
cpuid = 1

FreeNAS stopped working at this point. I had to use the reset switch to get a reboot. The reboot was very slow. I'm starting a scrub now so it can run all night.

Scrub is a good start.

I am not sure if FN even cares, but i know Apple creates hidden .DS_Store files in every directory, so could it be possible that FN is not seeing it, but getting denied message?

Another note, are you sure you ran "zfs destroy OurNetwork/Apple/Apple_Music" shouldnt it have been "zfs destroy OurNetwork_server/Apple/Apple_Music"
Were any other datasets created under Apple_Music?

Do you see any error message in the console at the bottom of the GUI?
If you don't have it enabled, go to settings, advanced, check "Show console messages in the footer"

Look for any error messages there when you remove it from the GUI.

Typo, shell output

...are you sure you ran "zfs destroy OurNetwork/Apple/Apple_Music" shouldnt it have been "zfs destroy OurNetwork_server/Apple/Apple_Music"

Were any other datasets created under Apple_Music?

Oops, the dataset discrepancy was a typo here in the thread, not in the shell.

I did copy some folders of music into /Apple_Music/, but they were not setup as datasets themselves.

SOLVED!!

Just for fun tried "zfd destroy -f OurNetwork_Server/Apple/Apple_Music", one more time...wait for it... IT WORKED! The dataset is gone. I refreshed the GUI and it's not showing there either.

Do ask, I have no idea!

well maybe the scrub or a reboot (if you did one) helped release any ties to that dataset it may of had.
