This ought to be a simple thing however i need to run some rsync pull commands on the root crontab. Adding the remote site to /etc/ssh/ssh_known_hosts works simple enough. However, after i send the /etc/ssh/ssh_host_dsa_key.pub and add it to the remote site .ssh/authorized_keys i still get asked for password. I would imagine i should have gotten automatically logged on?

What to do?

Also, i run freenas off a usb-stick and the / is mounted in 'readonly' mode. So i cant easily make changes to /root/.ssh/ dir.

That'll only last until the next update, or maybe the next reboot. There was a bug for not being able to update keys, it's been fixed I think, but you'd have to use a nightly build or wait for beta 5.

Update: SSH keys are stored in the GUI where you enable the SSH service. If you do it this way they get properly restored when you reboot.
