Hi everyone. Long time user, first time poster. I have a simple freenas box that I use to backup my virtual machines from my home VMware lab. I wanted to create a VMFS 6 volume which requires a new datastore since one of the major features of VMFS6 is native 4K block support. I created a new datastore with a new extent, new lun ID. Migrate the VMDK from the one datastore to the other. All was well so I deleted the datastore from vSphere and then deleted the extent from FreeNAS. Now I still show the space that was consumed by both LUNs being consumed and I am looking for how to force it to clear up the space by the deleted extent.

  1. Make sure there are no snapshots
  2. Deletes are asynchronous, to avoid blocking other I/O for a while during a large operation. Should the pool be exported before that process is finished, it will have to take place during import and it won't take any less long.
