EDIT: See edits below!

I can't for the life of me get CrashPlan to talk to the GUI on my Windows 7 x64 desktop.

I've followed every tutorial, some do it differently to others, but everything seems to be correct. The longer setup with SSH is not a requirement for me, even though less secure.

I've unhashed serviceHost=192.168.1.2 (and added IP as you can see) within ui.properties under C:\Users\USER\AppData\Local\Programs\CrashPlan\conf
Note: This path is NOT in Program Files, which makes me think that perhaps this is part of the issue. However, this is where CrashPlan decided to install.

I've changed the my.service.xml document under crashplan_1/usr/pbi/crashplan-amd64/share/crashplan/conf with "0.0.0.0" from "127.0.0.1".

CrashPlan did launch successfully without modified files however. Shall I uninstall and simply not launch until I've modified the required files? Does it matter that I launched it first in 4.5?

Sockstat reads as follows, which I believe is correct.

Code:
USER COMMAND PID FD PROTO LOCAL ADDRESS FOREIGN ADDRESS

I've tried varying jail settings with regards to checking and unchecking NAT, VIMAGE. I havn't changed autostart. I've tried making changes with jail on and off. I've tried making changes to CrashPlan plugin files via the jail console and FTP. I've tried making the changes with the plugin on and off. I've restarted the plugin after making changes.

I've disabled my Windows firewall and antivirus (Avast Business) but to no avail.

I'm hoping there is something very simple I'm over-looking, but short of something wrong with my local install, firewall or router, I'm a bit stuck.

If anyone has any ideas, they'd be much appreciated.

EDIT1: Switched from 4.5.2 to 3.6.3 and from 64 bit versions of each to the 32 bit versions which ended up installing in Program files(x86) and I'm still having an issue connecting. :(

EDIT2: Re-installed and rebooted both machines and it now gives me an option to log in, but refuses my account details telling me they are incorrect. The "forgot password" details link to a different website "crashplan.com" rather than "code42.com/crashplan", so apparently 4.52 and 3.6.3 are operating off of different databases. Perhaps it is because when I selected a CrashPlan account, I selected "CrashPlan PRO For Small Business" and my account is separate to "home users".
I created a rubbish account through the GUI and it works fine.

I seem to have configured the jail storage incorrectly however, but I'll sort that on another day.

Glad I have it working. I now have to contact CrashPlan and get them to cancel my trial on the email address I actually want to use. Either that, or somehow update the crashplan plugin within the jail to 4.5.2. my technical skills do not go that far though!

I hope these findings are useful for someone else if they have a problem with their account.

Cheers,
David

CrashPlan PRO is a different product, and not what the plugin installs. If you Google hard enough you should find at least one example of how to make the plugin talk to the CrashPlan PRO cloud...

Thanks!

I'm a bit brain drained for now, but I'll get on it tomorrow and see if I can get a result.

EDIT: Just tried now. I've tried installing the latest version of crashplan on FreeNAS, but the following command simply reports that CrashPlan is started and is running version 3.6.3

Code:
cat /usr/pbi/crashplan-amd64/share/crashplan/log/history.log.0

I tried installing without the plugin switched on. I think it actually installed the latest version. However, the above code returned "No such File", so I figured I broke it in doing so. However, it was the only way I could get it to put .ui_info in /var/lib/crashplan/

The tutorial from this thread describes installing bash first, yet I can't seem to get it to work.

jexec crashplan_1 /bin/tcsh
returns: jexec: jail "crashplan_1" not found even though the jail is enabled and the plugin is on...etc. I feel as if this alone has stuffed up the whole process. I'm probably missing some fundimental understanding of how to enter these commands.

ln -s /usr/bin/bash /bin/bash returns: ln: /bin/bash: File exists

So Perhaps bash is already installed and I should skip this step?

Skipping ahead a little, I've already pre-configured default.service.xml and my.service.xml files that are suited to the CrashPlan PRO install in order for the latest version to connect to the PRO hive/cloud/thing

The only hurdle I need to overcome is getting the latest version on the server and working out what to do with the .ui_info file on a Windows 7 machine. Apparently with the new version, the standard practice changing the IP within ui.properties no longer works.

I'm going to blitz the jail and start again, see what I missed and check back here for any pointers.

Cheers,
David

There has been a lot of discussion recently in these forums about upgrading the installed version of CrashPlan. The description I saw of making it work with the CrashPlan PRO cloud was also in these forums. I suggest some Googling with site:forums.freenas.org as the first part of the search, since that is likely to work better than the built-in forum search.

Thanks Robert,

That is exactly where I found the information. I've already pre-configured the files to drop in to the CrashPlan install when I can successfully upgrade the plugin to 4.5.2

I recently set-up crash plan (it's currently uploading at about 15%) very easily from a 'how to' thread here > https://forums.freenas.org/index.php?threads/tested-crashplan-4-5-setup.41418/#post-267701

This is the thread I referenced regarding the upgrade and is exactly the tutorial I seem to be struggling with re my last post. the commands to install bash either tell me "File exists" or don't give me any usable feedback, or no feedback at all. When I run the command to get the version, I either get "no such file" or it tells me it is still stuck on 3.6.3 after I've completed the install procedure. Upon trying to reinstall, I just get output to the effect of "existing file is not older, skipped" as if to say, it's already installed.

So unless the output after install is incorrect, I have no idea what I'm doing wrong.

Then I'm probably not going to be much use to you, sorry.
No problem, it must be me doing something wrong for sure.

I've just tried again again and it seems to have worked successfully, however when I call "cat /usr/pbi/crashplan-amd64/share/crashplan/log/history.log.0" it still reports "03/03/16 11:01AM CrashPlan started, version 3.6.3"

I've restarted the jail and plugin, same thing.

When I enter the initial "jexec crashplan_1 /bin/tcsh" and "ln -s /usr/bin/bash /bin/bash" output look like? I feel as if the files are extracting, but the script that Martin refers to is not being executed properly due to the fact I'm not installing bash on a new jail properly.

EDIT: Once again, appears to have installed correctly, so I try and check the version and get this:

Code:
root@crashplan_1:/ # cat /usr/pbi/crashplan-amd64/share/crashplan/log/history.lo
g.0
cat: /usr/pbi/crashplan-amd64/share/crashplan/log/history.log.0: No such file or
directory

Is there another way to check the version? I'm going insane.

Just an update before I decide to hose the jail and start again. I'm getting mixed messages.

"cat /var/log/crashplan/engine_* | grep CPVER" reports:

Code:
root@crashplan_1:/ # cat /var/log/crashplan/engine_* | grep CPVER

I 03/03/16 03:44PM CrashPlan started, version 3.6.3, GUID 731864881577328641

I feel defeated. It will get to the point where I wont be able to sleep.

I decided to give up after about the 10th attempt.

I decided to roll with CrashPlan 3.6.3 with the CrashPlan PRO tweaks in order to make it work with my account. I'll wait for the standard FreeNAS plugin to be updated before trying to upgrade. Currently backing up all data (3.5'ish TB worth) at about 3MB/s

Can't wait for the phone call from my ISP.
