I just received my Mini XL and started to copy data to my Raid Z2 disk. I can see in the FreeNAS web UI that SMART is enabled and active.

However, when I go to the BIOS settings, SMART is disabled there. Should I also enable it there or leave it as it is?

Thanks,

Enable it in BIOS as well.

Do you know why iXsystems ship their servers with it disabled? And also, do you know what it change to have it enabled/disabled in the BIOS?

Thank you!

Enable it in BIOS as well.
Or don't, it's absolutely irrelevant. That is just an option to have the BIOS do checks on boot, which is rather useless.

See above.

I stand corrected. I was under the impression that if not enabled, it could cause problems with certain setups (obviously not the Mini XL) and prevent SMART data from being read. Ignore my post above then.
