If possible could we have the ability to schedule when the system installs updates. Granted I know that most of us would probably like to baby sit the nas while it installs its updates. But would also be nice to say hey go do this at 2am and I'll check it out when I get up. Thanks.

Note that this sub-forum is for discussing feature requests. If you make the actual feature request at bugs.freenas.org, post the issue number here.

You realize you could do this yourself?

Just make a cronjob that runs every Sunday at 2AM (or whatever schedule you want) that does something like

freenas-update upgrade
reboot

You get the reboot every Sunday even if there is no update, but you might not care. :P

Keep in mind that you will have to change the "train" as time goes on, so even if it is "automatic" it wouldn't be entirely "carefree".

Personally, I'm very much against automated updates. Too much room for things to go wrong and you may not be able to figure out easily what went wrong if suddenly something broke. I prefer to be actively involved in the upgrade process.

And for the record, we already get emails:
A new update is available for the FreeNAS-9.3-STABLE train.

Hey Cyberjock I apologize for the delayed thank you. I like your suggestion here and I think that I'll get this put in place. BTW I also meant to tell you a while back that your guide is amazing thank you for putting all of that together.
