After reading a bit more on hardware and the M1015 cards etc, as my NAS box is only for a home server, I don't need the speeds which a SAS to sata card would give. And to be quite honest , after reading a post which a user had problems with FreeNAS not booting and hard drives not being recognised , its kind off put me off somewhat.
I don't feel brave enough yet to go through the procedure required to get FreeNAS booting up and all drives showing.

Thanks for the explanations, and I'll do some more reading before I go any further.

The "drives not recognized" was iirc a kaput controller. Or a user who expected to see the drives before OS boot, which does not work without flashing the BIOS bootrom.

Ok thanks for the clarification.

It appears I have another more important issue now, in that I have just found out that my i3 cpu does not support ECC memory, after I first saw that it did.
