If you don't provide fresh cool air and hot air escape with some type of forced air or venting system, your machine
will burn up, but it will, in short order, be VERY quiet...

Like boot drives should preferably go into the SATA ports, or smth like that?
It boils down to this:
  • The SAS2308 has more bandwidth available than the PCH, which also has to share between a number of things.
  • To boot from the SAS2308, you need the BIOS extension ROM installed.
  • Both controllers are going to be very close to each other in performance.

So basically it's more trouble than it's worth.

On a side-note: may I enquire how your new X11 build is going? In this post you mentioned cooling validation. Care to expand on it?

The schedule slipped, mostly due to the installation issues. In the meantime, my free time has run low, so I don't know when I'll be able to finish.

As for what it is - mostly running prime95 at the same time as badblocks and checking the temperatures.
