Rsync shared drive to local Linux system

I may be over thinking this, but here’s what I’m wondering. I have a shared drive in FreeNAS 11.3 with audio and visual media. It is set to RAID1 but I like to have multiple backups and so now and again I currently use SyncToy to copy over new content to an external backup drive that I plug into a SATA tray within Windows. For my main daily use case I have now moved to Linux and I would like to be able to copy that data to the same drive within Linux. Is it simply a matter of using rsync within FreeNAS to perform that action and if so I’d be grateful if someone could tell me how do that in terms of the commands and making the SATA drive available to FreeNAS - i.e. how to mount it presumaby? Or is there a different and simpler method? Thanks.
