RMA or not ? SSD had some read and write errors and 1 checksum error

hey,

i'm bad at cli smart information, so with the last update i shutdown truenas and looked at the disk with crystaldisk, which showed no smart errors. this was before the checksum error.
i replaced the cable to exclude that. and after some time i got the checksum error.

so maybe the read and write errors were because of a bad cable. i forgot how many errors it was, not many, maybe 4 write and 1 read +/- or 4 read 1 write

Hey,

You are also bad about telling us more about the problem. I an assume things but that doesn't help if i give you the wrong information. With that said, please follow the forum rules and provide us some information about your system, and exactly the problem you are having.

I looked briefly at your SMART data and I need to look at it again, it is odd at first glance. But time for dinner first.

After examining the SMART data, all looks fine. There are a lot of strange values such as 420 relocated sectors, any maybe that is true but you only have just over 4000 hours, the media wearout indicator it great (100 is good), your total LBA's written is low. You have the reserved blocks at a 94 value vice 100 so some of the blocks were used, which would make the reallocated sectors valid.

Based on what I see, this drive is presently good. The odd values in some of the areas is not too surprising, and the fact that a SMART Long test passes is a good sign. I would keep an eye on it.

Out of curiosity, why did you provide only this SMART data? Why not any other drives you have? Did you get a message indicating this drive was having some issue? Is this a boot drive or part of your pool?

I didn't answer your question on if you should RMA the drive or not. If it were me, I'd RMA the drive. It should not have any reallocated sectors on a SSD this early in it's life. The value in ID5 and ID180 would be my justification and the power on hours. You have just under half a year of power on hours, and not much data recorded either (~1.6GB), unless you have had this drive for a very long time and the counters have rolled over. But if it's in warranty, I'm sure the counters didn't roll over. I'd say it's failing fast. Could be a bad memory chip, things are not always perfect. I'm guessing here but RMA the drive.

because it's the only drive with errors. truenas had alerts for the read, write and checksum errors. it's part of a 2 wide mirror.

ok thanks a lot for your reply!
the counters didn't roll over, it's a new drive, well not anymore since ~4000h ago.
