My FreeNas box is only on for a couple of hours a day as and when I switch it on. So using rsync to push from my linux boxes only works if I switch it on at the right time. Is there any way to "pull" it ie the freenas box copies up the changes when it is on?

Yeah, I do this exact thing. Just write a script thay runs the rsync commands you need and stick it in the cron on the 'pull' machine.

Yes. The current problem with FreeNAS8 is that you cannot create rsync jobs using the GUI in this direction as you already found out. So you'll have to resort to using the shell and just writing them by hand.

Just add a comment on this ticket if you want rsync to "pull" with rsync.

The change required to support "pulling" in the GUI should be trivial.
