Hello, All

I'm having troubles with disks dropping out under ZFS scrubs.

Running FreeNAS-8.0.4-RELEASE-p1-x64 (11059)

AMD Phenom(tm) II X2 560 Processor
16 GB ECC RAM
ATI IXP700 AHCI SATA controller
Samsung HD204UI drives

The problem is in my disk controller. Exactly as described here:
http://forums.freebsd.org/showthread.php?t=24189

The question is how to force ata(4) driver for the controller?
Tried setting mobo to IDE mode. Also tried ahci_load="NO" in loader.conf
No luck. Still loads the controller as achi

Thanks a lot!

Hi hellok,

Just change the SATA controller "mode" setting from AHCI to IDE in the motherboard BIOS, that way the disks look like plain old IDE drives.

Tried this already.. and it's still in IDE mode.
Apparently NVidia and some AMD chips can be switched to ahci mode on the driver level. Seen it on some forum.
That's why the controller is being picked up by the ahci driver, not ata

Thanks though)

Here is the post I was talking about:
http://support.freenas.org/ticket/838

Quote:
"NVIDIA and AFAIR AMD chipsets (but not Intel) allow to easily force AHCI from the driver level, so ahci(4) driver may attach even if AHCI disabled in BIOS. Just try it and see what driver has attached to the hardware."
