Hi all,

I want to make a pure Backup server, which will be used for backing up photo's of my photo studio and i want to spent app. €900,- to €1000,-
After reading a lot of post here on the forum i did come to the following build

Supermicro X11SCL-F (bulk)
Intel Core i3-9100F
2 x Kingston KSM29ES8/8HD (8GB • DDR4 • 2.933MT/s)
Cooler Master MWE Bronze 450W V2
Crucial BX500 120GB ( As boot drive)
5 x WD Red (256MB cache), 4TB ( in Raidz2 config -> 10.4TB backup space)
Cooler master RC-690 (from my old pc-build)

total backup space will be app 10.4Tb and i want to use the stock cooler of the I3-9100F

Is there anything which can be improved or are there things which i can do to decrease the costs?

Beware... in those sizes, WD REDs can be SMR, which is a no-go for ZFS.

Look for/ensure that you get RED Plus drives (CMR) or you're in for trouble/disappointment.

Going 1 generation older to X10 series might help you save some money. I know you are not in the US since you mentioned Euro pricing, else the used market would have been what I would have advised you to go for.

Yes, I am not in the US, I am in the Netherlands.

I am a bit hesitant about using used products.
You do not know how long the system has been running.
But a good idea to look for a new board on ebay, and i found already one :smile:

That's a great board for FreeNAS. I have the X9SCL-F board that I used to run FreeNAS on. I now have Proxmox running on that board and my FreeNAS is on X10SLH-F and backup FreeNAS on Tyan S5533
