pager error while copying from esata drive

Good evening.

New user, new system.

8x wd 2tb green drives
Perc 5i
Core2duo with 8gb ram

I attached a fan cooled esata drive, mounted it (mount -t ext2fs ) and proceeded to copy all the data off of it.

I'm getting quite a few pager errors with some negative offsets. I forced a e2fsck and nothing was reported.

Will include a screenshot.

Suggestions welcome.

This is brand new - I just inserted the last 2 wd drives today and made the new raid-2 volume.

Can you tell us ALOT more about your system? Say.. everything that is asked for in the "Forum Rules" would be a very good start.

Also, you said RAID-2. There is no RAID-2 for ZFS. Are you talking about RAIDZ2 or something else entirely?

RAIDZ2 - sorry. Tablet auto-correct.

I will get the data off of that system. I've been using a tablet to mostly administer it, but it is quite difficult as neither the built in browser, firefox, or opera properly work with the web gui.

It's the 64 bit version. Will update this post with all the details when I return home.

RAIDZ2, 4k alignment, 8 drives no hot/cold spares. PERC has a functional battery (yay for soldering skills).

You likely have to run that command as root. Also, many RAID controllers do not support SMART data from the command line without specifying the controller type.

Edit: Some RAID controllers require you to use the CLI to obtain SMART data. My Areca controller doesn't work with smartd or smartctl and I have to manually retrieve SMART data via CLI.
