Been using FreeNas for a few years now and all of a sudden the server no longer connects to my client (direct connection).
The troubleshooting I've done so far:

1. client OS issue?
No. I changed client OS's and none of them can connect. However, every OS does recognizes the NIC (Intel X520-SR1)

2. tried to reset the IP address on the server
but I could no longer see the 10 gig NIC (same model as the client) listed. I tried to set the 1 gig built-in NIC's but FreeNas simply wouldn't let me. I select the network interface, it asks me to reset it and then it returns to the main menu. What it should be doing is prompt me with setting the IP info. Very strange.

3. in the console, below the menu, there is a message
web interface could not be accessed please check network configuration

so yeah... give it to me straight; how much trouble am I in?

update 1
I opened a shell and the ifconfig command showed that the NIC is still being recognised. But the console doesn't. When the system is booting, there seem to be some errors but I'm not sure they are significant.
I suppose it would be best to do a fresh install en import the pool. Could this problem have been caused by the OS drive going faulty? I wasn't running a mirror of it.
