I'm still new, so let me know if anything further is needed - the below seemed like the most relevant info/code to provide.

Whenever I try to run a command that has to pull data from the internet, it downloads a little data and then times out/stalls (this is within a jail).
So to install a package, it might take a day because I'll only get a few files every time I run
Code:
pkg install xyz
- after running it 10o times the aggregate downloads is enough to install.

Things like pkg upgrade, pkg install xyz, make (for ports) etc.
It'll begin the download - sometimes it'll get a few whole files and then stall on the 4th or it'll get x% of the first file and stall - note in the below, it says it got 100% of the first pkg, but in reality (I watched it), it got to 4%, stalled, then reported 100% and timed out.

I've tried restarted, new jails (standard and 10.3 templates), checked my network/router connection, done speed tests, changed/upgraded/downgraded the router firmware etc.. Not sure what the issue is.

I've searched the forums and only really found one similar thread (which had a 2post Q&A from the submitter) which was apparently fixed by creating a new jail - this didn't work for me.
And haven't turned anything up from google.

I thought it was unlikely to be hardware issue as it can get on the net - it is reachable on my network, i'm running plugins (sonarr/plex) that use the net and regularly download data, and it can download packages and update (if slowly and intermittently...) - so if it was incompatible hardware, then it wouldn't reach the net at all, right? one or zero.

I am very green/new, so apolgies if there's not enough useful info below - just ask me what you need (and the comancds to get it) and I'll post asap.

please read this linked post FORUM RULES

Most issues stem from the hardware used turning out to be inadequate for use with the current up-to-date versions of FreeNAS.
Follow the requests found in the linked post, so we can rule out a hardware issue. Thanks!

Might be an issue with the site. I just tried to browse to "http://pkg.FreeBSD.org/freebsd:10:x86:64/latest/All/subversion-1.9.4.txz" and was prompted with a "Save File" so it is working now. Want to give it another try and see if it works now?

Yeah, it managed to pull down the data last night (my time) after a few goes at it. Now i'm trying to pkg install deluge. Same issues. It'll get through a few files, stall and fail. On second go it'll get that file, maybe a couple more, then stall and fail again on a different file. Seems too frequent for it to be down links.

It's already up there - second chunk of code - I've reformatted and added ifconfig for the system (opposed to the jail), if it's relevant.

That looks good. What sort of ping times are you getting? Wonders if there is a DNS or upstream network issue. Are there any firewalls between the systems?

pings kinda suck - high and packet loss varies.

I use a router with DD-WRT and a modem in full bridge mode (so it just passes the net to the router - no DHCP or login etc - the router is the gateway.) No firewall firewall rules on the router besides the one identifying the IPs i want to be routed through the ip table for VPN. Only thing I can think of that *might* have an impact is that I am running OpenVPN on the router with iptables - so only one of my jail IPs is routed through the vpn - all other network traffic is unhindered. Part of setting this up means setting the 3 out of 4 DNS option to the VPN provider's own, which are US-based. But it doesn't seem to have an impact on any other net work traffic (PCs, ipads, chromecasts etc.) - all get <30 ping and ~15meg in speed tests.

Did you find a resolution to this? I have the same problem but ping times are 16ms.

wget is a problem because downloads start from scratch everytime.

Cheers

So this just started to happen to me after the latest update to FreeNAS 9.10 STABLE on June 26. It only happens in new jails (Previously created jails still work fine).

I have used the setup commands from https://gist.github.com/jacobblock/4d9270c25548c65300dd for all of my jails. I found that setting anything in the sysctls section when creating the jail causes the problem. If you leave that section blank then the jail works fine.

no resolution for me - seems intermittent.

I am also having similar issues running 9.10. When doing pkg update and pkg upgrade I get various "operation timed out" issues. If I keep doing the pkg command I will eventually get enough of the file to move forward but it can take quite a few attempts. Running other jails like Plex, Sonarr, NZBGet all work fine and pull data like they should. I get 50MB download so it should not be a speed issue.

Here is the output of one of the failed pkg update commands and really need help from someone on what the issue is.

I'm having this problem with the MineOS jail. pkg update works fine but anything else only grabs a few percent of the file before it says operation timed out.
