Hello,

I did read the guide there :
https://www.ixsystems.com/documentation/freenas/11.3-U3.2/storage.html#importing-a-disk
The guide says that it will create a one time import. But actually i seems that it will move the data from the NTFS to the ZFS drives already mounted.
I am running the latest v11.3 of FreeNAS, is it possible like in many linux system to mount the drive to read it in FreeNAS and then I would copy the data to ZFS drives...

If I use "Import Disk", what is actually happening with the data on that disk?

Thanks

The manual seems very clear about what it does:

It copies the data from that disk into a specified dataset.

Hi danb35,
The guide is clear when you are used to the vocabulary used. I am learning it...
So once those data are copied to the new dataset, what is the OS doing with the imported drive? Can I then detach it and but it back on my windows 10 computer?

Regarding the shell, like in many linuxes, can i do something like ntfs-3g /dev/da0s2 /mnt/windows
Then I wont need to use the importing disk function....

Thanks

I'm pretty sure it unmounts the drive so you can return it to wherever you got it from.
