No zpool after upgrade

I've just upgraded from 8.x to 9.1.1 using the GUI. Everything appeared to go as expected but now I cannot see anything in the zpools.

If I type zpool status at the comment line I get 'no pools available', in the GUI although my data1 pool is shown the GUI is not able to display any information such as space where it reports 'error getting total space' and I can't get the volume status that just hangs on 'Loading...'.

I'm at a bit of a loss about how to recover, so any suggestion welcome.

Give us some more hardware specs, please - and details about your old version, which one was it exactly? Which kind of pool do you have?
Also, you can try to boot into a 8.x installation and see if your pool is available there (Just install on a second USB Stick).

And post the output of "zpool import" in [code ] tags.

Thanks for the suggestion, I've gone back to 8.3 and the pool is back! I've added my config below. The disks are all 2TB Samsung HD204UI Spinpoint in a HP ProLiant N36L MicroServer AMD Athlon II Neo Dual Core (N36L) 1.3GHz.

I'm wondering if the driver for your SATA controller was updated in 9.x and somehow isn't compatible with your hardware anymore. You are doing virtualization, so that does add a whole extra layer of complexity of things that can go wrong.

Do you know what camcontrol devlist said when you were on 9.x?

just complete a clean install of 9.x and could not auto import. camcontrol devlist says:

Ah, you are virtualizing FreeNAS. I just noticed the virtualized disk from your previous post too. I will give you the standard warning:

Please do not run FreeNAS in production as a Virtual Machine!

"Absolutely must virtualize FreeNAS!" ... a guide to not completely losing your data.

I'm not sure how well you can expect to virtualize FreeNAS being that the system isn't exactly that powerful before you use virtualizing. I'm pretty sure you are using RDM(which is very dangerous) and is likely the cause of your problems. I just helped someone last week that used RDM and 8.3.1 worked fine but as soon as you upgrade to 9.1.1 the disk size was zero bytes for all of his disks.

I'd highly recommend you abandon virtualizing FreeNAS since you aren't following the recommendation of the second link. That hardware isn't capable of following the recommendations either, so you are looking at buying new hardware if you don't want to heed the warning. Keep in mind those threads were written because we see weekly threads of people that have lost their data because they tried to virtualize FreeNAS.
