Looking to build a new system and would welcome advice/comments please.

I've already got the following:
Case: Fractal Design Define XL R2
Motherboard: Supermicro X10SL7-F
HDDs: HGST Deskstar NAS

and now looking to get this little lot to complete the system:
Processor: Intel Xeon E3-1231
RAM: Crucial 16GB Kit (2 x 8GB) DDR3L-1600 ECC UDIMM
PSU: tba

Many thanks

How many drives are you planning to have in the case at the end of the day?

Ok, presumably my selection is fine, just wanted to have some advice on calculating requirements for a suitable power supply. I'm sure I've seen something on this site but not been able to find it.

Thanks

450w seasonic should be good for the power supply.

Hardware looks good other than its a little old. Did you price out a new system and compare?

Also starting with 3 drives is a bad idea. Best to start with all 8 or at least 4 drives in a raidz2 of you don't care about storage efficient.

Thanks.

I'll increase my initial spec to 4HDD, as recommended.

Two problems for me. First, here in the UK is getting newer suitable Supermicro motherboards and ECC RAM without having to import from the States, second is my budget!

regards

Alan
