New drive failure troubleshooting help

Hardware:
AMD Phenom II x4 B60
8GB Ram
ASROCK or MSI mobo (cant recall which one) Can crack it open if needed
6 x Seagate 2TB 7200 Drives (3 older 3 new) in zraid2 not encrypted
Freenas-9.2.1.6-Release-x64

notes: I know the ram is low, looking for a deal to upgrade ram to 16GB,
3 old drives ran in zraid1 for a year at least,
new drives a week old used to recreate in zraid2


First error showed on ada2 (new drive) few days ago (checksum error).
I ran several of the dd tests and smart tests found on the forums. Results looked good, so I assumed isolated event. zpool scrub and cleared error.

Now I have another error on same device. This time the drive was actually put offline by the system (RMA process started)

183 Runtime_Bad_Block showing 1 scares me as well as 7 Seek_Error_Rate 0x000f 054 050 030 Pre-fail Always - 81608911642 as that's higher than my other drives.

Just want to make sure i'm not jumping the gun and that the RMA is the way to go. Anything else I am missing?
Any help will be appreciated.

Just got back from purchasing a spare drive from Microcenter. Also picked up a couple new sata cables (locking). Do you think there is any reason to do further testing on the drive or should I just exchange it?

The formatting is a pain in the ass to read, so in the future please use CODE tags.

Don't you have SMART long tests scheduled? The drive hasn't had one recently. I'd run one before deciding. A single error may be overlookable.

I did run it after I made the initial post and was supposed to be done now, but when I went back to check it didn't complete. I scheduled another long test. (260 minutes)

Normally the host reset means you power cycled or otherwise rebooted the machine. I've seen a disk or two where they are bad and they report a host reset even though the problem is the disk. I'd rule out the PSU and SATA cable as a possible source of problems and then assume that the host reset message is actually a sign of the disk being unreliable.

I have replaced the sata cable and the power supply and it has been running the long smart test for over an hour. Will continue to monitor it and see if that helps. Thanks for the suggestions.

Well the new PSU and sata cable seemed to improve things. The drive was able to complete the long smart test without errors. Maybe the RMA was a bit premature. Thanks.

Looks like it took a few tries but you did get a long test to finish without error.

I'd say do a single badblocks pass. Off the top of my head I think I did "badblocks -svw -t 0xFE" and if that throws no errors I'd say your disk is just fine.
