It has a thread. The consensus is that we don't know what hardware is actually affected and we don't know what such a small chip would be able to do, but it can't do much.

Another thing to know about this, they think it began in 2014, which is after the boards I suggested were made.
So these older boards would not be affected.

This may be a stupid question ... I bought a SuperMicro motherboard.. the one that Chris Suggested:
SuperMicro X9SCM-F Intel Xeon E3 Intel C204

Would this RAM be compatible with it?
32GB (4 X 8GB) PC3-12800 DDR3 1600 ECC Reg RAM Memory Supermicro X9DRL-iF

I am leaning towards no, because the RAM does not list support for X9SCM, but maybe I am wrong and this doesn't actually matter.. It looked like a good deal so i figured it would be worth confirming!

No, sorry, that is Registered ECC memory and does not work with this board.
You need UDIMM (Unbuffered) memory like this:

Memory: Samsung 8GB M391B1G73QH0-YK0 DDR3 1600MHz 240p UDIMM PC3-12800E ECC 2Rx8 - - US $62.88 * 2 = $125.76

It does matter and I am happy you checked. That low price on Registered memory is why I have often suggested system builds that use a Xeon E5 CPU. The system board and processor is more expensive, but the memory is so much less.
