Hi all,

I installed Freenas 8.0.1 RC1 on a DELL PE860 (usb drive), and IP (192.168.100.48) was assigned by DHCP. Then I took the usb from the Dell server and put into a HP Microserver, booting up fine with a new IP (192.168.100.50) DHCPed.

Afterwards, I can not get it from webgui, So I manually changed the IP to 192.168.100.50 from the console, still no luck. However, I could SSH to it.

Then I tried to locate the lighttpd.conf (usder /usr/local/etc/lighttpd/)
There is line * server.bind = "192.168.100.48" *

I changed it to 192.168.100.50, restart the lighttpd service, now I can get into web

Problem is when I rebooted the server, it came back to 192.168.100.48

Any ideas?

Thanks RW

Changes made outside the GUI are NON Persistent (except from the console). My suggestion would be to reset/change your network settings from the console Network Configuration Wizard on the HP Microserver.

I believe the fact that a GUI initiated change to a static IP causes the WebGUI to be rendered inaccessible is a known bug in RC1 that does not affect the previous version (BETA4). There are some other threads on this issue.

If you want to persist the change to the lighttpd.conf you need to modify the one in /conf/base/etc/local/lighttpd. But this might still result in a something getting overwritten with a freenas-v1.db based setting. If that is the case, you can edit the /conf/base/etc/rc.d/ix-httpd.

Kind of painful and hopefully will be fixed in RC2.
