You're not buying that new, are you?

Because if you're buying new, that's kind of a horrifyingly old and power-hungry route to go.

A better solution for FreeNAS would probably be the 5027R-WRF (modern equivalent, no second proc) or if you needed 12 drives, you could go with the very flexible SC826BE16 chassis with an X9SRi or something vaguely like that.

If you don't think that's inexpensive, go check out the price for a ReadyDATA 5200 and then think again ;-)

Sure, but it gets complicated quickly, when trying to determine whether or not a given thing makes sense. With new hardware, at least it isn't likely to crap out anytime soon.
