So I currently am running FreeNAS-9.2.1.5-RELEASE-x64 (80c1d35)
I have 5 disks in my ZFS pool. I have jails running but I don't care if I have to recreate them.

I would like to update to the latest stable build. What is the recommended approach?
My guess is to:

1. grab a DB config file of the current build
2. do a fresh install on my boot disk
3. (auto)import the ZFS pool
4. restore the config

Will this work or am I forgetting something. Should I do something special with the pool before changing the OS?

You got everything correct except I would use a new boot device just Incase things get messed up you can return to the old environment.

With the newer version you can also look into mirroring your boot device if you want.

Once you do the upgrade and import the pool (which, as @SweetAndLow says, shouldn't be a problem at all), the system will prompt you to upgrade the pool. Don't do that until you're certain that you want to stay on the current version, as the pool upgrade is irreversible, and older versions will not be able to import it.

Just an update, this did work flawlessly. I have issues with installing new plugins but will make a threat in the appropriate section.
