Hello from the southwest US.
So I bought myself my first NAS a few months back, a Synology DS718. Pretty slick little thing but just like everything else that peaks my interest, I find more it more fulfilling to build something.
So I may be looking for pointers as right now I am putting together my parts list for my first build.
CPU, I'm leaning towards Xeon E5-2680 V2 or E5-2690 V2. Good balance of performance and affordability.
Motherboard, Supermicro X9SRL-F. Seems like alot of the X9s are no longer in production which makes me second guess the CPU/mobo combo.
RAM, Samsung M393B1K70CH0-YH9 8x8GB.
Case, either a Silverstone CS380B w/ Seasonic PSU or Supermicro Cse-743t-500b.
This will primarily be used for Plex and backing up personal files and pictures.
