I'm a long time hardware RAID user who is now reformed and doing my first FreeNAS installation. So far so good, lots of reading, lots of options. Unfortunately I was hoping to play more with the setup before I was forced into production with it, but alas the last of my hardware RAIDs was hanging by a thread so I jumped in.
That said I'm happy with my setup and decisions and vdev layout, so I think it's all good. Waiting for a few more cards to arrive so I can complete my installation (a pair of LSI 9201-16e's). Have 15 drives attached currently, another dozen will be attached once the extra hardware arrives. Also upgrading my old (but trusty) file server (HP DL380 G5) to 10G network, along with my old (but also trusty) esxi box (Dell r900).
Now I have to go read more on iSCSI targets and FreeNAS.
