Right now I'm running openfiler on a vmware ESXi. I have created a iSCSI target and have it pointing to a windows vista box. This setup is currently holding over 250G of pics, and home videos. I have carbonite backing the whole thing up offsite. I would like to use ZFS to try to crub file corruption. I was think about a FREENAS or Solaris solution. I'm on a budget so the solution needs to be a good price. What would be a good solution setting up a vm or a hardware system? I like VMware because I can migrate the vs and pop in a bigger drive. Does anyone have any ideas?

Since you're already trying to curb file corruption, IMHO put the storage on it's own hardware and don't virtualize it. Do a forum search on ESXi and draw your own conclusions.
