My name is Terry. My username as taxman855 kinda gives away what my profession is. I am new to FreeNas and have just successfully converted a very old PC to a file server. I am looking into upgrading to version 9.3. This old machine is a 32bit machine so it appears the latest upgrade of FreeNas won't work. However, for my office purposes, this seems like it will be a good backup. I do utilize backblaze for my primary workstation but backup client files to an 3.0USB drive via the router. This new backup will serve as a third source of backup. The current volume is 57GB I am thinking of adding additional volumes to the new server. Not sure of the cabal requirements. Anyway it will all be a good learning experience for me.

The only problem I have is that you will be on your own in terms of support from the community. It sounds to me that you have a decent backup strategy already.

Why go to the extra effort to stand up an old machine running unsupported software?
