Hello forum.

I am new to the forum but not new to FreeNas. I recently had my MB crash due to water damage but the data drives remained intact. I replaced it with the above MB but when I go to add the raid volume, which usually shows up as adr0, it does not show. I am also finding it difficult to locate accurate instructions on how to add the UPNP as a service. It appears as though FreeNAS has moved from a simple file server solution to a more complicated one. Could someone please assist?

Reboot the Freenas box and go into system setup do you see the disks in the bios. If yes then boot up Freenas select option 9 (shell) on the console, type "camcontrol devlist" at command pompt. It should list your drives....

Svargas,

Thanks, but I don't have an issue with the physical disks. They all show. The configured Raid 5 does not show anywhere.

Something's sounding fishy...

Can you confirm the version of FreeNAS you are using?

Is it the same version you were using before the disaster?

Were you using hardware raid?

Can you post the output of "gpart show"?

Just to be sure, did you create your RAID 5 in FreeNAS, or in the RAID controller interface of your previous motherboard?

If the RAID controller interface, you may be out of luck.

If FreeNAS, what version? With the UPnP question, it sounds like you're coming from .7. If I recall correctly, I believe there are some RAID configurations that don't automagically load between .7 and 8.

Edit:
Aww, protosd beat me to it. :)

I was on 7.2.5543 and everything showed up fine when I re-installed. I went to 8.0.4 P2 and the Raid was not there. I tried 7.2.8191 and everything showed up fine. Then I tried 8.2 Beta 3 and the Raid was not there. I would like to use a version of 8 if possible.

The Raid was created on MB and the new MB picked up the configuration off the disks just fine. 7.2 finds the Raid as well.

Hi MJMGTech,

Any idea what device\controller created the "amr0" array? Were you using software RAID-5?

What was the old hardware you were using? Were the drives connected to the board or to an add-on controller?

Old board GA-X58A-UD3R
New Board GA-X58-USB3
Both are Gigabyte with onboard Hardware Raid.

Hi MJMGTech,

Those boards support Intel's chipset raid, which isn't exactly hardware RAID...there's just enough logic in the chip\BIOS to get the system up & load the driver that does all the actual raid functions.

But that's not exactly important to your problem....what we need to know is how your array was originally configured. If you were using the software RAID-5 option in 0.7.X then there is a problem because that's not supported in FN 8.0.X.

Thanks for the clarification. I used the Intel Chipset Raid functions not the software raid in ver 7.
