Yesterday, I updated to the latest FreeNAS-9.10-STABLE-201604181743 from FreeNAS-9.10-STABLE-201604140622.
Today, I was looking at the Reporting Disk window, which I do daily, and noticed frequent writes to my mirrored SanDisk 8GB Cruzer Fit boot drives.
I don't belive this is a healthy development for my USB drives and rebooted to the previous 201604140622.
After reboot, da0 and da1 reverted to their normally mostly inactive state.
