Hi,

I would like to know the best practice of having two servers in my environment FreeNAS redundant if one fails the other will automatically assume, is to aim for an iSCSI virtual server xenserver.

Kernel modules for CARP are included in FreeNAS, but as for configuring failover... there is no best practice or body of knowledge. You're essentially on your own.

http://www.freebsd.org/doc/handbook/carp.html I don't have any resources for you on CARP, sorry. This is the relevant page of the FreeBSD documentation (as I noted, there is no FreeNAS documentation for failover and probably never will be). I believe some of the early steps on this page are already done in FreeNAS, but you'll probably want to step through it all yourself. If you can avoid needing to compile your own version of FreeNAS (which hopefully will be the case) you'll be better off in the end, but know that Here There Be Dragons.
