FreeNAS as a Target for Virtual Hosts

I am thinking about building a FreeNAS server to use as a target for some virtual hosts that I want to run some VM's on. My question is will this setup be ok? I know that I will need to have enough network connectivity between the hosts and the server to allow for performance but I am looking at booting my hosts direct from the FreeNAS server. If anyone has done this or has suggestions I am open to all. I by now means have all the answers and If I this thread is somewhere already and I missed it I apologies in advance.

Yes, it's been done.

I suggest you take a look at Cyberjock's ZFS newbies guide and look in the resources section for how-to's.
